I give them what I call the "5 rules of Magic." 1. Never tell how a trick is done. It ruins the mystique of the magic. 2. Never perform the same trick twice in a row for the same audience. The first time, they have no idea what's going to happen, and if you repeat it, they will start to figure it out no matter how good you are. 3. Practice, practice, practice, and practice some more. When you are done practicing some more, practice again because you can never practice enough. 4. Have fun because that is what magic is all about. AND finally, #5: the biggest secret of magic. There is no such thing as magic! There is a logical reason for every trick and illusion. The REAL magic is in the presentation.
