Learn How To Roll A Coin Over Your Fingers (Tutorial) — Free Magic Tricks

Learn How To Roll A Coin Over Your Fingers (Tutorial)

by Magical G on May 18, 2009 · 120 comments

If you really want to impress people, rolling a coin over your fingers has got to be at the top of the list.

Not only will it make you look cool, but it will give you instant credibility as someone who knows what they’re doing, even before you show them any other tricks!

Getting a coin to roll smoothly over your fingers will take a lot of practice, but if you put in the effort like I did, not only will you reap the rewards of just feeling cool when doing it, but people will also take you more seriously when you do your magic.

Extra Practicing Tips

  • Balance the coin on your thumb for a few days to get to a high enough level of dexterity.
  • Take each movement between your fingers slowly and if you mess up, do not worry, just start again.
  • Use a larger coin as it is easier to control.
  • When you can perform the sleight, start increasing the speed a little… but not too much. Over time the speed at which you can roll the coin over your fingers will naturally increase in any case.
  • Practice this sleight of hand on top of your bed, because you will drop the coin a lot at the beginning. Even I still drop the coin sometimes, and I’ve performed it a fair few times now!

I can do it slow but now I try to go faster.

Reply

25 Jay Jay August 10, 2009 at 7:57 pm

I think around 2-3 months…

but some people get it before me.

Jay Jay

Reply

26 Paul August 11, 2009 at 5:38 pm

A good way to learn it faster is to practice over a glass surface, or even a keyboard. When the coin falls, it makes a really annoying sound, so your try even harder not to let it fall.

[..YouTube..] The coin rolling is good but the magic trick isn’t; it’s too obviouse where the 2nd coin came from.

58 freemagiclive November 24, 2009 at 11:01 pm

[..YouTube..] Hey Weeble68,

Please remember that your audience does not know about palming and other things like this.

They will not notice only if you do :)

Reply

59 Weeble68 November 26, 2009 at 4:55 am

[..YouTube..] Of course they will, if u catch a coin in ure hand and there are now two coins in that hand, the most obviouse explanation is that there was a coin in tht hand all along.

Reply

78 Muzozavr February 12, 2010 at 7:23 am

This stuff is like, impossible, honest. I’ve been practicing coin roll for months some time ago and never got anywhere.

It did allow me to easily learn the MUCH MUCH easier “fingerpass” with pen spinning, resulting in a guy who can do a fingerpass but not a freaking noobish thumb-around.

I’m serious, this is extremely hard, I did not expect to see it here. I’ve got a pretty good pass with my cards now, but this is harder… by a wide margin. Personal opinion, of course, but… seriously… this is freaking hard.

It does look really cool if you can do it well though, so if you want to do serious coin magic, coin roll is a big help in establishing your credibility.
